President John Dramani Mahama has nominated two individuals for appointment as Municipal and District Chief Executives (MDCEs) in the Ashanti Region, pending approval by their respective assemblies.

The announcement was made in an official statement released Thursday, July 17, and signed by the Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy, and Religious Affairs, Ahmed Ibrahim.

Nominated Appointees:

Ibrahim Issahaq – Nominated for Atwima Mponua District Assembly

Yakubu Issifu – Nominated for Asante Mampong Municipal Assembly

According to the statement, these nominations are part of the government’s broader strategy to strengthen local governance and ensure effective implementation of development projects and national policies at the district and municipal levels.

The nominees will need to be vetted and approved by their respective local assemblies before assuming office. If confirmed, they will play critical roles in:

Coordinating local development initiatives

Ensuring the smooth execution of government policies

Managing relationships between traditional authorities and civil institutions

This marks yet another step in President Mahama’s ongoing reorganization of the local government apparatus as part of his second term agenda.
