GES Confirms 2026 BECE to Take Place from May 4–11

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has officially announced the dates for the 2026 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE), setting the national exam for Monday, May 4 to Monday, May 11, 2026.

The confirmation comes as part of the newly released 2025/2026 academic calendar, which outlines important timelines for all basic schools across the country. The BECE remains a crucial milestone for Junior High School (JHS) students, serving as the gateway to Senior High School education in Ghana.

According to the GES statement signed by Daniel Fenyi, Head of Public Relations, the early announcement is aimed at giving students, teachers, and parents ample time to prepare for the national assessment.

“The GES urges all schools and stakeholders to take note of the examination dates and begin adequate preparation to ensure successful outcomes for candidates,” the statement said.

2026 BECE Preparation Timeline

Academic Work Begins: September 2, 2025 (First Term)

Intensive BECE Preparation: January–April 2026 (Second and Third Terms)

Examination Dates: May 4–May 11, 2026

The GES further emphasized its commitment to providing a supportive environment for final-year students, urging school heads and district education offices to ensure effective teaching and learning within the months leading up to the exams.

Education stakeholders have welcomed the clarity around the 2026 BECE schedule, calling it a step toward restoring structure and predictability to the academic calendar after disruptions in recent years.

Parents and guardians are also being called upon to actively support their wards through effective supervision, access to study materials, and a conducive home environment for revision.

The GES reiterated that discipline, punctuality, and academic focus should be maintained throughout the school year to guarantee strong performance in the exams.
