Integrity, honour, and professionalism have earned Ghanaian soldier Private Solomon Asare Teye-Tsu a well-deserved promotion and international recognition.
At a special all-ranks durbar held at Burma Camp in Accra, the Chief of the Defence Staff (CDS), Lieutenant General William Agyapong, announced Teye-Tsu’s promotion from Private to Lance Corporal. The promotion comes after the soldier made national headlines for rejecting a bribe from illegal miners while on duty at Bibiani Gold Mines earlier this year.
In addition to his promotion, Lance Corporal Teye-Tsu has been nominated to serve with the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL)—a major milestone in his budding military career.
“Much as acts of indiscipline will attract sanctions, professional conduct such as that of L/Cpl Teye-Tsu will attract reward and commendation,” the CDS stated, reinforcing the Ghana Armed Forces’ commitment to discipline and ethical standards.
L/Cpl Teye-Tsu was also awarded a second citation of commendation at the ceremony, which drew attendance from senior military officers and personnel from various divisions. He currently works with the Public Relations Department of the Ghana Armed Forces.
The 30-year-old soldier’s commendation stems from a courageous decision made while on guard duty at Bibiani Gold Mines. A group of illegal miners attempted to bribe him for access to restricted areas. Rather than accepting the bribe, Teye-Tsu arrested them and handed them over to authorities, an action that won him public admiration and praise.
In recognition of his exceptional conduct, Ojeyz Security Limited, the private security company managing the mine site, presented him with an “Outstanding Staff Recognition” citation signed by the company’s founder, Captain Haruna Adamu (Rtd).
