Ghanaian musician Quamina MP, born Emmanuel Kwamina Amonoo, has pushed back against growing narratives that Ghanaian artistes are stingy, following viral claims that Nigerian superstar Davido gifted music promoter Ananzo Official $5,000 while Ghanaian acts have allegedly given him nothing.
The conversation was sparked by social media reactions to Ananzo’s comments, in which he praised Davido’s generous gesture and subtly lamented a lack of similar recognition from Ghanaian musicians, despite his efforts in promoting their music.
In an interview with Amansan Krakye, monitored by HypingGhana.com, Quamina MP dismissed the notion that Ghanaian artistes are not supportive.
“Davido giving Ananzo Official $5,000 doesn’t mean Ghanaian artistes are stingy, as some people might want to make it look like,” he said.
He explained that many artists choose to support others privately, and the absence of public gestures does not mean support isn’t happening behind the scenes.
“Maybe a Ghanaian musician can give him more than that amount, but will never make it public.”
Quamina MP expressed confidence that Ananzo is receiving help from Ghanaian artistes, even if it doesn’t trend online.
“I know that definitely Ananzo Official is definitely being given something small, though it is not something that is in the public domain.”
He urged fans and critics alike to avoid blanket judgments, adding that everyone supports in their own way and at their own pace.
