Gov’t Signs MoUs with International Firms to Establish Universities in Jasikan and Kintampo

The Minister for Education, Haruna Iddrisu, has announced the signing of two landmark Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with international engineering firms to advance the government’s plan to establish two new public universities in Jasikan and Kintampo.

According to the Minister, the agreements were finalized with Gharably Integrated Engineering Company (GEICO) from Egypt and CMS Group from Morocco, both of which have committed to partnering with the Ministry of Education to support the full development and construction of the university campuses.

“In line with Government’s intention of establishing two public universities in Jasikan and Kintampo, I signed two separate MoUs with the Gharably Integrated Engineering Company (GEICO) and the CMS Group from Egypt and Morocco respectively,” Minister Iddrisu revealed in a Facebook post on Tuesday, July 15.

The two new universities are part of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government’s efforts to expand access to tertiary education, especially in underserved regions. The project aims to tackle regional imbalances in education infrastructure and provide tailored training to meet local and national skill demands.

“The universities will be a transformative step towards inclusive national development, as well as address the skills shortages in the respective regions,” the Minister added.

Stakeholders have welcomed the initiative as a major investment in human capital development, particularly in regions that have long lacked tertiary education infrastructure.

Construction timelines, academic focus areas, and enrollment projections are expected to be announced following feasibility studies and stakeholder consultations in the coming months.
