Register all mining machines by August 1 or lose them – Muntaka warns

The Ministry of the Interior, led by Minister Mubarak Mohammed Muntaka, has issued a sweeping directive mandating the registration of all machinery used in mining operations with the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) by August 1, 2025.

The announcement, made via the Ministry’s official Facebook page on Tuesday, is part of the government’s intensified efforts to regulate the mining sector and clamp down on illegal and unregulated activities.

According to the Ministry, any mining equipment that is not registered by the deadline will be seized by the State, without exception.

“All individuals and organizations engaged in mining activities are required to register their machinery with the DVLA. Equipment that remains unregistered after August 1 will be subject to immediate confiscation,” the statement emphasized.

To ensure effective enforcement, the Ghana Police Service and the DVLA have been jointly tasked with implementing the directive beginning August 2, 2025.

This policy is expected to help identify and track machinery used in both legal and illegal mining activities, enhance environmental monitoring, and promote transparency and accountability in the industry.

The Interior Ministry is urging all stakeholders, including large-scale and small-scale miners, to comply promptly in order to avoid disruption to their operations.

The directive is part of a broader regulatory overhaul by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government aimed at restoring order to the mining sector, protecting natural resources, and strengthening national security.
