'Overlord refix is my new ringtone' - Mohammed Kudus tells Stonebwoy

Ghanaian music and football collided in spectacular fashion over the weekend as award-winning dancehall star Stonebwoy surprised fans with a special refix of his hit single “Overlord” dedicated to Black Stars midfielder, Mohammed Kudus. The custom version of the song was unveiled during Kudus’ official introduction as a Tottenham Hotspur player.

The 38-second video, released by Tottenham Hotspur on July 11, featured Kudus in full Spurs gear as he was welcomed with the customized track, originally from Stonebwoy’s 2024 Up & Running album. The lyrics were altered to celebrate Kudus’ move to the Premier League club, sparking excitement across social media platforms.

In a follow-up video shared on July 14, the excitement reached new heights as Kudus, in the middle of a photoshoot, was called over by club management to hear the song for the first time. Visibly thrilled, Kudus exclaimed, “This track is mad and I really like it.”

The moment grew even more heartwarming when Kudus was seen on a video call with Stonebwoy himself, sharing how much he appreciated the surprise tribute. “I hear the track. E be mad waa. The lyrics of the song are crazy. In August, you have to come to the stadium because it is another shutdown. That is my new ringtone,” Kudus told the Bhim Nation President.

Stonebwoy revealed that the special refix was created under intense pressure and passion, just hours after Kudus’ transfer was officially confirmed. “I composed the song yesterday. I didn’t sleep because we had to fix it just yesterday. Can’t you see my eyes?” he said with a laugh. “I hope you love the track. Anything you want to fix inside the track now now, we fit do.”

The video has since gone viral, with Ghanaians and football fans around the world applauding the beautiful crossover between music and sport. Many praised Stonebwoy for representing Ghana on a global stage while honoring one of the country’s football exports making big moves in Europe.

The collaborative moment has not only highlighted national pride but also set a new bar for how music can be used to celebrate sporting achievements in unique and culturally resonant ways.
