Officers of the Lagos State Police Command have arrested 25-year-old Samson Oghenebreme in the Odomola community of Epe for allegedly being in possession of human organs, which he was reportedly transporting from Edo State to a native doctor for suspected money ritual purposes.
In a statement issued by the command’s spokesperson, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, the arrest was made after the police received credible intelligence from vigilant members of the public concerning the suspect’s suspicious movements.
“Operatives of Odo-Noforija Division have arrested one Samson Oghenebreme ‘m’ aged 25 in Odomola community, Epe, for being in possession of human organs,” Hundeyin stated.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the organs were being transported for ritual purposes. The recovered remains have been deposited at the General Hospital in Epe for preservation and forensic analysis.
The case has since been transferred to the Edo State Police Command for further investigation and prosecution, given the origin of the alleged crime.
Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, commended both the quick action of the operatives and the vigilance of the local community, emphasizing that public cooperation was critical to the suspect’s arrest.
“Timely information sharing played a vital role in the prompt apprehension of the suspect,” CP Jimoh noted.
He further urged residents of Lagos State to remain alert and report suspicious individuals or activities to the nearest police station. He reiterated the Command’s unwavering commitment to safeguarding lives and property throughout the state.
The case has sparked renewed public concern over the rising reports of ritual-related crimes in parts of Nigeria, with many calling for more aggressive crackdowns and community awareness campaigns.
