CEO of National Ambulance Service Nuhu Zakaria sacked

President John Dramani Mahama has dismissed Dr. Nuhu Zakaria from his position as Chief Executive Officer of the National Ambulance Service.

While the Presidency has not publicly provided an official reason for the termination, the decision comes in the wake of concerns raised by the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) regarding Dr. Zakaria’s alleged misuse of an academic title.

Dr. Zakaria was recently cited by GTEC as one of several individuals accused of using unverified academic credentials and adopting titles they had not officially earned. The Commission is currently conducting a nationwide review of academic qualifications used by public officeholders.

It remains unclear whether the GTEC findings directly influenced President Mahama’s move, but the timing of the dismissal has fueled public speculation.

Dr. Zakaria has not publicly responded to the allegations or his removal from office.

The National Ambulance Service is yet to announce an interim or permanent replacement for the position. Meanwhile, stakeholders have called for transparency and due process in resolving issues related to academic integrity in public institutions.
