Atasemanso Circuit Court has handed down 10-year prison sentences to three teenagers involved in a brazen daylight armed robbery at Buobai, a community in the Asokore Mampong Municipality of the Ashanti Region.
The convicts Mamudu Issah, Samuel Takyi, and Alhassan Abubakari, all 18 years old were arrested following a swift intelligence-led operation by the Ashanti Regional Police Command with support from community volunteers. The trio was apprehended at a hideout in Aboabo just days after the incident.
According to police reports, the group, which included three other suspects still on the run, launched their attack between 7:00 a.m. and 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday, July 1, 2025. Armed with machetes and riding two unregistered motorbikes, the assailants terrorized residents, making away with mobile phones, cash, and personal belongings.
All three appeared before the Atasemanso Circuit Court on Tuesday, July 8, 2025, where they pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit robbery and seven counts of robbery. Mamudu Issah also pleaded guilty to an additional charge of causing harm.
Presiding over the case, the court sentenced Issah to 10 years for each robbery count and three years for causing harm all sentences to run concurrently. Takyi and Abubakari were each handed a 10-year concurrent sentence for their involvement.
The Ashanti Regional Police Command has confirmed that the convicts have been processed and transferred to Kumasi Central Prisons to begin serving their sentences. Meanwhile, a manhunt is ongoing to track down the remaining accomplices.
Authorities are urging the public to assist with credible information that may lead to the arrest of the fugitives, promising that all tips will be treated with confidentiality.
