Several individuals posing as security personnel have been arrested near the Awoshie DVLA polling station in the Ablekuma North Constituency amid the ongoing parliamentary election re-run.
The arrests were confirmed by John Desmond Nii Sowah Nai, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Ga West and Dean of the Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) in the Greater Accra Region. He revealed that the suspects are not affiliated with any recognised state security agency.
The group, reportedly dressed in brown uniforms resembling those of some official forces, was spotted loitering near the entrance of the polling center. Their suspicious presence drew the attention of election security officers after they failed to produce any valid form of identification or credentials when questioned.
Citi News sources indicate that the individuals struggled to properly identify themselves and were quickly apprehended by the assigned security team. They were subsequently transported to the Odorkor Police Station for further interrogation and investigation.
The incident has raised serious concerns about election security and the potential for voter intimidation during the re-run, which has drawn national attention due to its competitive nature.
Authorities have yet to determine the motive behind the group’s actions or whether they are linked to any political party or group attempting to disrupt the process.
Meanwhile, the Electoral Commission and local officials have assured the public that security at all polling centers has been reinforced to ensure a safe and transparent voting exercise.
This story is developing. Further updates will be provided as investigations continue.
