A 21-year-old mobile money vendor, Desmond Adzah, was fatally shot by unidentified gunmen at Quarters Junction in Ngleshie Amanfro on the evening of Wednesday, July 9.
According to eyewitness accounts, Desmond was ambushed around 7:00 p.m. while on his way home from work. He was rushed to the Ngleshie Amanfro Polyclinic by bystanders but was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
Ruben Kumor, a resident who spoke with Desmond shortly before the incident, shared a chilling account of the final moments.
“I asked to withdraw GHC150, but he told me he was low on cash,” Kumor said. “Minutes later, I heard a gunshot. Someone ran up to tell me Desmond had been shot.”
The tragedy has sparked outrage and suspicion in the community, particularly from Desmond’s family. His sister, Erica Adzah, believes the killing may not have been random.
“From what we’re hearing, he may have been followed by people he knew,” she said. “Some believe the suspects were even his friends. After taking his bag, they shot him because he recognized them.”
She added that Desmond attempted to seek help at their family house, but his efforts were thwarted by continued gunfire in the area.
“This needs serious investigation. These motorcycle robberies are getting out of hand. Government must act,” Erica stressed.
The incident has reignited calls for better security in Ngleshie Amanfro, especially during evening hours. Residents say there is little to no visible police presence in the area, despite the proximity of a police station.
Community members are now demanding increased night patrols, CCTV installations, and urgent action from local authorities to combat the growing threat of violent crime.
Police say investigations are ongoing, but no arrests have been made as of Thursday morning.
