NPP Enforces Strict Protocols for Constitutional Conference

Joseph Osei-Owusu, Chairman of the Planning Committee for the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) upcoming National Delegates Conference, has reaffirmed that the July 18–19 event will center strictly on constitutional amendments, not political campaigning or presidential endorsements.

Addressing the media at the NPP Headquarters in Accra, Osei-Owusu emphasized the party’s commitment to a disciplined and focused convention. The conference, scheduled to take place at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium, will host 5,675 accredited delegates, with access to the main decision-making arena strictly limited to those officially approved.

“This is not a showground but a serious constitutional exercise,” Osei-Owusu stated firmly.

To preserve the neutrality of the conference, the party has banned all campaign paraphernalia, including banners, branded T-shirts, posters, and any promotional materials for presidential or parliamentary aspirants.

“We are not going to allow the conference to be turned into a political rally,” Osei-Owusu warned. “There will be no candidate lobbying within the core discussion space.”

The key agenda item is a set of proposed amendments to the NPP’s constitution. These have been distilled from a comprehensive 300-page review document circulated to party structures nationwide. Delegates will debate and vote on selected motions during the two-day conference.

To ensure order, tight security protocols will be enforced, with only pre-approved exceptions to delegate access allowed by the National Executive Committee (NEC). A media village will also be set up, providing pooled content feeds to guarantee consistent coverage and minimize crowding near the conference floor.

The NPP’s internal reforms come at a pivotal time, as the party seeks to strengthen its governance structures ahead of the 2028 general elections. While speculation continues about succession and presidential hopefuls, the party leadership is clear: this conference is about structure, not personalities.
